Project Vision Smiles

Project Vision understands the intimate connection for oral health to whole body health. Sickness in the mouth amplifies sickness in other areas of the body. Specific bacteria from dental decay and gum disease travel to the other organs, which compounds the severity of chronic diseases including diabetes, cardiovascular disease, and even dementia.

The PVH-Smiles clinical partners are the oral health experts and dentists of the Hawaii Dental Hui who have been developing and deploying preventive dental programs in several Native Hawaiian homeless villages.

Project Vision Hawai‘i’s oral health platform is working to address dental health disparity in underserved communities. These include the homeless, uninsured, homebound, incarcerated and the disabled. Priorities of care delivery include primary preventive care, essential emergency care for pain and infection, and Minimally Invasive Care (MIC), using the newest evidence-based preventive procedures.

Project VIsion’s smile programs are build on Native Hawaiian values, culture, and protocols. Everyone deserves a healthy and beautiful smile.
