About Pulama Ola Kaua‘i
A place to heal, stabilize, and reclaim dignity
For many people on Kauaʻi, a hospital stay is only the beginning of the healing journey. When someone is medically fragile — but not sick enough to stay admitted — returning to the streets, a car, or an unsafe living situation can quickly undo the progress they’ve made.
Pūlama Ola Kauaʻi provides short-term medical respite for adults experiencing homelessness or housing instability who are recovering from illness, injury, or hospitalization. In partnership with local healthcare providers, social service agencies, and community organizations, we offer a safe, supportive setting where people can heal while connecting to the resources they need for long-term stability.
Our name — Pūlama Ola — reflects our purpose:
to nurture life, restore health, and care for each person with dignity and aloha.

Why Medical Respite Matters
Without a safe place to recover, people are more likely to:
Return to the emergency room
Experience complications or infections
Lose medications and follow-up care
Remain trapped in cycles of homelessness and poor health
Medical respite reduces hospital stays and costs, improves outcomes, and helps people transition toward stability — while treating every person with compassion and respect.
For hospitals and providers, Pūlama Ola Kauaʻi is a trusted partner — helping ensure patients are discharged safely with continued care.
