MEDICAL RESPITE VILLAGE

About Pūlama Ola

Pūlama Ola, meaning to “cherish life”, is a medical respite village consisting of 10 tiny homes located on the mauka side of DOH’s parking lot. This innovative kauhale is the product of Governor Green and his administration, the Governor’s Coordinator on Homelessness, Department of Human Services, and the Emergency Proclamation addressing homelessness. The village will serve as the state’s first tiny home kauhale for unhoused individuals leaving hospitals and in need of additional support on their path to healing and recovery.

The 10-unit village constructed by HomeAid Hawaii and managed by Project Vision Hawai‘i (PVH), will provide round-the-clock staffing at the kauhale for intake, supervision and care coordination. PVH will also provide registered nurses who will make daily rounds and a mobile hygiene unit for clients to take hot showers.
